Sylvester Posey, 82, departed this life on November 1, 2020. Sylvester was born July 21, 1938 to the union of Jesse Posey and Fedonia Posey in Vian, Oklahoma. He was one of three children. His parents and one sister, Jesse Marie Brown preceded him in death.
Sylvester received his education from the Kansas City, Missouri Public Schools and graduated from Manual High School in 1956. Sylvester participated in athletic activities, the Golden Gloves, as well as received a certificate in brick mesentery
during his time there. From there, Sylvester went to the Navy in 1956 serving 4 years and joined
the National Guard in 1961 where he served an additional 16 years. Sylvester also worked at Ford Motor Company for 35 years and retired 1997.
On February 28, 1963 Sylvester married Annette Simmons the love of his life, and to this union three children were born; Michael Posey, Carlotta Posey and Daryle Posey.
Serving the Lord was the way of life in the Posey family. As a result, Sylvester found the Lord on April 19, 1981 under the leadership of the late Bishop E. Harris Moore. Sylvester served as a church deacon, a Sunday School bus driver for 50 years, and taught the senior Sunday School class under Bishop John Mark Johnson until his health began to decline in 2011. Sylvester’s faith in the Lord remained strong and steadfast even throughout his illnesses.
Sylvester leaves to cherish his memory for his wife, children, and grandchildren (Crystal Posey, Capri Posey, and Dante Smith-Posey), sister Cynthia Prince, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
