Stephanie Elizabeth Collins, 63, passed away on July 28, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on August 1, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ernest James Collins, Sr. and Marjorie Laverne Collins. She grew up in KC and graduated from Southeast High School in 1075. After high school, Stephanie attended Penn Valley Community College and also took up cosmetology. She started her working career early with summer and after school jobs. Later she went on to work for G.E.H.A. for 15 years as a medical claims specialist.
Stephanie, affectionately called Stevie, was the youngest of five siblings - 1 brother and 3 sisters. As “the baby”, she was spoiled by her siblings and had her father wrapped around her finger (so she thought). She loved to be in the company of family and friends. Stevie was a person of great intellect and a true worshipper of God. She was gifted with a powerful singing voice, appreciated by many. Stevie would sing while bathing and the whole neighborhood would hear her. They all enjoyed her free concerts. She was a visionary, she allowed God to use her as a vessel for worship by creating the Praze ‘N Motion dance ministry at New Life In Christ where she was a founding member. Stevie answered the call of gospel recording artist Daryl Coley, by joining a recording project as a member of the mass choir in the 90’s. She also had a flare for fashion and started a “special boutique” from the privacy of her own closet. Her favorite motto was “pay as you go and you won’t owe.”
Although Stevie was a private person, she loved life and she loved to laugh. She was full of spunk and pizzaz. She had a special call in her heart to help young people in need and mentored many young teenagers.
Stevie was a strong and resolute person. She instilled that strength in her only child, Muffy, and her two grandchildren. Like all of us, she had her inner struggles but through it all, she loved the Lord. She will be missed by all that knew her as she touched the lives of so many. Stevie lost the battle of brain cancer and she fought to the very end. She is preceded in death by her father, Ernest Collins, and her oldest sister, Diane Harris.
Her legacy will carry on through the memories in our hearts. She is now at rest in the loving arms of the Lord! Stevie is survived by her mother, Marjorie Collins; daughter, LaTonia Taylor, granddaughters Marjhoree Washington-Ross (Michael), and Mariyah Washington; great grandchildren Ryleigh Ross and Broolyn Ross; 1 brother, Darryl Collins, Sr. (Nedra).; 2 sisters - Gaile Johnson (Azel); Lisa Wesley (Keith), 4 nieces - Teisha Johnson, Cherita Nimrod and Mia Johnson, CeCe Collins; 5 nephews - James Smith, Jr., Darryl Collins, Keith Wesley, Jr., Jabbar Wesley and Sheldon Collins and a host of aunts, cousins, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
