Minnie Patterson Obituary

Minnie Lee Patterson, the daughter of the late Jessie Lee Jordan and Mary Jordan, was born on September 12, 1943, in Flora, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Jessie James Jordan, Leslie Jordan, Melvin Jordan, Charles Jordan, Jessie Mae Huff, Nancy Nell McCline, and Kamari Crawford.

Beside going to school, she cooked for her family and picked cotton. On September 29, 1960, she was united in matrimony to the late Brendy Patterson. Six children were born into this union. They were married for fifty-one years until his death in November 2011.

She received her GED on August 15, 1985, in Kansas City, MO. During her career, she worked at Sherman BBQ and was employed as Cafeteria Manager with the Kansas City Public School District until her first retirement. She then worked at Montgomery Ward and Sears until she fully retired in 2000.

She was well known for her baking and cooking. Every holiday family members knew she would have a feast  of their favorite dishes and desserts. Sour cream pound cake, 7-Up cake, pecan pie, and German chocolate cake were some of her most popular sweet treats. This may be why her kitchen was her favorite room and everyone else’s.

During her free time she was involved with Silver Sneakers at The View and Senior Buddies at Seton Community Center before COVID-19. She enjoyed working out with her exercise buddies and spending time with her senior buddies. She also liked spending her time gardening, cooking, sewing, completing jigsaw puzzles, and solving work search puzzles. She was an avid collector of figurines and memories of great times with her family and friends.

For several years she was an active member of Love United Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. She was active in the church, singing in the choir and cooking for church events.

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, Mother Patterson departed this life in her home surrounded by her children. She leaves to cherish her memory and honor her legacy her daughter, Mary L. Patterson; five  sons, Kenneth M. Patterson, Darryl E. Patterson, Geoffery G. Patterson, Calvin J. Patterson (Keisha), and Kevin J. Patterson, Sr.; six grandsons, Steven Nevins, Joshua Taylor (Courtney), Jeremy Patterson (Lucy), Damien Patterson, Lcpl Kevin Patterson, Jr., and Micah Patterson; four great-grandson, Steven Nevins, Jr., Damien Patterson, Jr., and Osius Patterson; two great-granddaughters, Amari Taylor, and Valentina Patterson; her sisters, Patricia Rosell and Annie McCree; her brothers, Howard Jordan, Robert Earl Jordan, and Rickey Jordan; her beloved yorkie, Tiffany; and a host of other relatives and friends.
