Louise Simpkins Obituary

Louise Simpkins, also known as "Noony", 87, took her rest on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Louise was born June 17. 1936 to Robert Wilson and Nancy Voss. Raised in Grace Mississippi, she was the middle of six sister’s and seven brothers. Louise moved to Kansas City with her older sister Elizabeth Thomas (Bae) as they shared a home together and raised her children. Later Louise married Fred D. Simpkins, they were united until his death.

Louise was a devoted mother of six children, a caregiver, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend. Filled with compassion in her own way, Louise loved and adored caring for the children and families in her community. Louise worked as a cook for Twin Oaks Restaurant in her early years, and as an Early Childhood Educator in her later years, where she raised and supported children in her community in her home. She later partnered with her daughter Pat to have both an in-home childcare center and preschool. Louise enjoyed working with children up to her death, as she would still yell to the children to do their schoolwork. Louise was a devoted member of Straightway Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Frank Flemings until his death. After completing her work with Straightway, Louise became a faithful and devoted member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorship of Pastor Honeycutt, and now under the Pastorship of Pastor T.C. Caldwell. She was the devoted President of the Mothers Board until her passing. Louise enjoyed spending time with her family every chance she got and taught many of us how to cook everything except her famous Sweet Potato Pie. Rather it was cooking; fussing with her siblings or caring for her grand and great-grands anytime the family was together, Louise was present. One of the things that she loved the most was listening to the Word of God and singing her favorite church songs as they played on her small radio.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Robert Wilson and Nancy Voss, husband Fred. D. Simpkins, one daughter, Shelley Mae Wilson, one son: Robert Lee Wilson, five brothers, John Henry Wilson, Bennie Wilson, Floyde Voss, Jimmie Lee Curtis and Charlie F. Curtis, one sister Emma Newman, one great grandson Robert Jackson Jr and one great granddaughter: Skye Antoniece Williams

Left to cherish Louise’s memory are her two daughters: Patricia Bradley and Belinda Wilson of Kansas City, MO, two sons, Booker T Wilson and Carlton Simpkins of Kansas City, MO, four sisters Elizabeth Thomas, Georgia McGill (Billie) Dorothy Heard (Howard) all of Kansas City, JoAnn Johnson (Richard) of Dallas Texas, three brothers Alex Wilson (Bertha) Fred Curtis and Jake Wilson(Ethel) of Darlove Mississippi, 18 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
