Levata Eloise Edwards, 71, passed away on November 11, 2021 peacefully at her home in Lee’s Summit, MO. She was born on April 9, 1950 in Memphis, TN to Willie R. Edwards and Levata E. Townsel Edwards. After graduating from Hamilton High School, she began work at South Central Bell (later acquired by AT&T). She retired from AT&T after more than 30 years of service. Upon retirement, she began working at InterCall as a quality specialist, where she was employed more than 10 years.
Nothing was more important than her faith; she accepted Christ at age 11 and later joined Cumming Street Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. For career path and family reasons, Levata relocated to Kansas City, MO in 1994 where her younger sister Earnestine resided. Shortly after, she joined Concord Baptist Church of Jesus Christ (now known as Concord Fortress of Hope Church). Dedicated to service, she was a part of several ministries throughout the years including the choir, singles ministry, various youth activities, even working at the church office.
She is preceded by her parents, her brothers William Edwards and Byron Edwards, her sisters Cynthia Edwards, Christine Edwards, and Earnestine Edwards. She is survived by her daughter and caregiver Maia R. Young, her son Carlton A. (Whitney) Weathers, her sisters Gloria (Kenneth) Blue, Ada Adams, her brother Robert Edwards (Gwen) and grandchildren Zionna T. Jennings, Nathan B. Weathers, Carlton J. Weathers, and Lilian N. Weathers and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Concord Fortress of Hope, Serenity Funeral Home, and all others that have prayed and supported them during this most difficult time.
