Lena Horne

Lena Horne was born January 2, 1959 to the union of James and Veola Horne. She was the fifth of eleven children. Her parents, one daughter Joyce L. Horne, one sister Jamesetta Horne, four brothers Roland, Derrick, Hilton, and Andre Horne, all preceded her in death. 

Lena Horne was educated at Linwood Elementary and Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri. Before she started a career in healthcare for many years, she loved to care for others who couldn’t care for themselves. 

She always loved to bring her family together, listen to music, and create memories with her loved ones. Lena was a firecracker, and loving at the same time. She will be truly missed. 

She departed this life on Sunday May 23, 2021. 

Lena leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Colena Horne Moody (Antoine), Markeya D. Horne, and Derrick Horne, all of Kansas City, Missouri; twelve grandchildren: Spurgeon, Amory, Mariah, Marie, Makayla, Maurice, Martayvion, Deron, Jaron, Derrick, Cashmere and Essence; five sisters: Deborah Horne, Sherry Embry, Tierra Horne, Joyce Horne Sherman (Curtis), step sister Patricia Cuyler (Dan), and one brother: James Horne Jr., all of Kansas City, Missouri; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
