Juanita Mondaine Obituary

Juanita, loving known as “Nita”, was  born to the union of Magnolia Harris Johnson and Sammie Johnson, Sr. on Monday, June 5, 1950.  She was born in Leflore County, Greenwood, Mississippi.  She was the younger sister to Sammie Johnson, Jr.  Juanita came to Christ at an early age and grew up in the church with her family.

After her mother remarried to Jonas L. Morehead, Sr., the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  The family grew and she became the older sister to Ethel Williams, Dorothy Jackson Simpson, Jessie Morehead, Jonas Morehead, Jr., Angela Morehead, Aaron Morehead and Anthony Morehead.

Juanita graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri.  After high school, she attended Penn Valley Community College.  She worked several years for CNA Insurance Company.  Juanita had an incredible mind for business and became an innovative entrepreneur.

She married John Mondaine in June 1971.  That union produced three beautiful children:  Cordell E Mondaine SR, Marcus T Mondaine Sr and Ardeshia R Mondaine. Everything she pursued in this life was for the love of her children. Juanita was the co-owner of Bea’s Convenient Store with her husband, John for many years.  She believed in giving people a chance and was able to employ many young people in the community Becoming the neighborhood “mom”.

Juanita’s kind heart and giving spirit was her greatest quality.  If it was in her power to help another person, she was willing to do it.  Her sarcastic nature and humor would light up the room.  She was an amazing cook and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was shy, yet friendly to all who knew her.  She was firm when she needed to be, yet was able to give a warming and gentle hug to those in need.  Sometimes intimidating, yet she was always approachable.

She transitioned from this life on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, surrounded by her dedicated children and family.  She was proceded in death by her mother, Magnolia Morehead, father, Sammi Johnson, Sr, her stepfather, Jonas L. Morehead, Sr., her brothers; Jonas L. Morehead, Jr. and Jesse Morehead and her grandson, Marcus T Mondaine Jr and a very special aunt Gertrude Jernagin.
