John Rider

John Liggins Rider was born to James Austin and Joanne (Liggins) Rider, in Chouteau, Oklahoma. John was the second child of 14 children. John was preceded in death by his parents James and Joanna Rider, Brothers; James, Larcell, Herbert, William (Bill), Vernon, Alfonzo (Fonz), two sisters; Barbara Rider and Mattie Rider-Miller. Daughter Vicki (Keith) Hylton, granddaughter Jazmine Hylton.

John was a member of The Brushy Creek Baptist Church, in Chouteau, Oklahoma. John attended Brushy Creek Elementary School and graduated from Wagoner High School in Wagoner, Oklahoma. John enlisted in the Army after high school, he completed his tour in Hawaii. While in the Army John sent his pay home to his mother to help support his siblings after the death of his father. After he completed his tour in the Army, John returned home and worked various jobs, continuing to support his mom and siblings. John enjoyed blues and Jazz music, he also enjoyed fishing, horse racing, and going to the casino. John was a avid sports fan, his favorite sport was baseball while in the Army, after the Army a recruiter came to recruit John for the Detroit Tigers, he said he was not home, and his mom told the guy that John was not interested because his mom did not want him to leave again, He played for several teams in Oklahoma.

John told us he got to play a game against Sachel Paige, John said he hit a single on a pitch from the great Sachel Paige. John was a great storyteller; his family always came to him for family history.

John moved to Kansas City, Missouri, he worked with his uncle Frank Liggins at his Service Station. John began working at General Motors (Leeds) Kansas City, Missouri. He retired from General Motors in 1990 with 22 years of service.

John married Alpha Thompson, to this union his son John Wayne Rider was born. John met Pearline Keith in 1975. John and Pearline married on March 20, 1976, to this union John gained a daughter; Vicki (Keith) Hylton and son, Shaun Keith. John and Pearline were married 44 years.

John leaves to cherish his life and memories, his wife Pearline (Keith) Rider. Sons; John Wayne Rider (Denise) Ft. Worth, TX, Shaun Keith (Tania), Kansas City, MO. 3 grandsons, Jahlil Rider, Hammond, Indiana, DeVaughn Rider, San Antonio, TX. Shaun Keith II, Kansas City, MO, granddaughter; Amani (Winfield) Rider , Pearland, TX, great grandson Grayson (Winfield) Rider, sisters; Lydia Brown and Delana Baker (Anthony) Tulsa, OK Doris Jones (Cecil) San Pablo, CA., brothers Kenneth Rider, Tulsa OK, Larry Rider (Brenda), Kansas City, MO., sisters-in-law Lula Rider and Marilyn Rider, Francine Liggins Oklahoma City, Alice Newman (Miller) McAlester, OK, Sandra Keith, Lawton, OK, brother-in-law Herbert Keith, special relationship with nephews; John Coleman, Parson, KS, Albert P. Lee Keith, Lawton, OK, Keith Newman, Stafford, VA. John has a host of nephews, nieces cousins and friends not listed but loved by John and his family.
