Jeffrey Hampton Obituary

Jeffrey Cameron Hampton, better known as “Jeff”, was born on February 14, 1965 from the union of J.C. and Versie (Holloway) Hampton in Kansas City, Missouri. He spent most of his life in Kansas City and is a Central High School Blue Eagle alumnus from the class of 1984.Jeffrey was very athletic in his youth. His athleticism combined with his magnetic personality and huge smile made him a perfect fit for the Central Blue Eagles Cheer Squad. Jeffrey loved leading the cheer for the Blue Eagles, but he also enjoyed the luxury of being one of the few male spirit leaders among the many female cheerleaders.

Jeffrey had many interests and jobs during his life but found his calling as a cook. He worked at many restaurants in the Kansas City area but considered himself the second-best BBQ man in Kansas City after Mr. Ollie Gates. He showed off his skills working for Mike P’s, where he developed many fans of his “Jeffrey” smoked meats. Jeffrey loved BBQing for his family and would tell you he saved his best stuff for his family.

Jeffrey was one of those “special” people that God puts among us common folks. Jeffrey was special because if you were around him you had to either smile, laugh, or roll on the floor from just being around him. He had stories and jokes and street wisdom that he would give you with this manner of communication that had most folks thinking, Jeffrey, you so crazy! Jeffrey seemingly had no enemies and many family and friends that just plain loved him, even with his imperfections.

Jeffrey was a ladies’ man before he settled down in marriage. He loved the ladies and they seemed to really love him too. Some of his many loves resulted in many children, which he loved dearly.

Now as lovable as Jeffrey was, he also got into a lot of fights in his life and knocked out a good number of guys for various reasons as he made it through life. Jeffrey was one of those guys that most folks knew by his nickname “Hamp” and the name carried weight that was respected on and off the streets. If Jeffrey loved you then it was best that nobody ever messed with you.

Jeffrey appreciated life so much and loved his family so much because he never expected to see his kids grown up and to have his grandchildren. At times during his young adult life, he would slip and go the wrong direction and have to pay a price. He survived his mistakes and changed his life. In his recent life it was common for Jeffrey to have said “I love you” to over 10 to 15 family or friends during his normal day. Jeffrey was a devil, but he was also an angel!

Jeffrey attended many churches and was helped by many pastors who knew him and helped him through some tough times in his life. Jeffrey was most influenced spiritually by his nephew, Pastor Anthony Harden. Jeffrey reached out to his nephew at any hour of the day for prayer, guidance, or understanding of the word.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents: J.C. and Versie Holloway-Hampton; his only brother: Bryant Keith Hampton; and his son: Demarcus Williams.

He leaves behind his wife: Cheryl Hampton who he loved dearly; her children:  Monica Walker, Tracy Walker, Crit Walker, Marcel Walker,  Ladale Walker; his sisters: Anita Sillimon (Steve) and Verma Brown (Steve); a past love: Teresa Armstrong; his children: Kamilia Brock, Keona Williams, Jeffrey Hampton, Sr., Lorenzo Cox, Sr., Mario Cox, Sr., Antwon Armstrong, Sr., Javonta Hampton, and many, many grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Jeffrey was larger than life to his family and friends and will be missed dearly. He leaves a big hurt in a lot of hearts, but he also leaves many great memories, thoughts and feelings. His passing has also brought family together to love one another. Love was what Jeffrey was all about!

We will miss you my husband, brother, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend, but we could never forget you!
