Jacquelyn Shackelford, 84, was born on February 2, 1937, in Kansas City, MO to Will B., and Annabelle (Robinson) Morris. She passed away on January 2, 2022, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Beverly Sims; brother, Phillip Morris; and both husbands, Williams Hess, and Ardred “Donald” Shackelford.
Jackie attended Wendall Phillips Elementary School and she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. She married Will Hess on January 7, 1956, and this marriage was later dissolved.
She later married, Ardred “Donald” Shackelford on July 31, 1970. They were married until his passing on November 19, 2007.
She started her work career as a seamstress for the owner of Adler’s Clothing Store. She later became a bookkeeper for TG&Y store located at 31st & Troost. After years of service, she switched careers again, becoming a mail clerk for the United States Postal Service and ended her career with USPS after serving for 34 dedicated years.
Jackie loved family and friends. In her later years she spent time on the phone talking to everyone that would listen. Now if you called her, she may or may not answer, but you better answer when she called you. She was the keeper of all birthdays, and everyone knew that she would call you on or near your special day.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Phillis (Kelvin) Hampton; stepchildren, Marita Parrott, Derrick Shackelford, Randi Shackelford, Kandi McGinnie, Reggie Shackelford, and Stacey Shackelford; special grandchildren, Kelvin Hampton, and Philicia Hampton; cousins, Ida Hughes, Leroy (Barbara) Johnson, and Charles (Carolyn) Allen; in-laws, Madalyne Shackelford, Sharon (Alfred) Allen, Vickie Shackelford, Marvin (Carolyn) Shackelford, and Thomas Jenkins; nephews and nieces, Harold “Ray” (Theresa) Thomas, Ronnie (Jackie) Morris, Kevin Morris, Micquelyne (Roosevelt) Rambo, Aletrice (Thomas) Chandler, Anna Dameron, Angela Dameron, Adriane (Chris) Hamilton, Elizabeth (Dannie) Hudson, Paul Shackelford, Brandon Shackelford, Robert Shackelford, Barry Shackelford, Keith Allen, Marla Shackelford, Monette Smith, Dell “Tony” Smith, and Stephen Ford; caregivers, Alonda Lewis, India Kincaid, and Jamie Roland; and a host of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
