Hubert Miles Sr. Obituary

Hubert Billy Miles Sr. was on born March 23, 1946, in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Hudy Miles and Timothy Gordon-Miles. Hubert was the fourth child and only boy of seven.

He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in McAlister, Oklahoma. The family later relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1959 where he also attended Central Jr., and graduated from Manual High School Class of 1965, and earned a certificate from Electronic Institute.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents: Hudy and Timothy Gordon Miles; son: Kyle Smith; four sisters: Rosalind Yvonne Lewis, Delores Ann Mays, Nina Mae Brown, and Doris Louise Redmond.

Hubert was united in marriage to the late Donna Marie Meredith in 1966. To this union three children were born: Zena, Hubert Jr., and Parrish Miles, all of Kansas City, Missouri. After dissolution of this marriage, he married Jacqueline Johnson July 2, 1992, and became a stepfather to her two daughters: Janina Greene, and Shannon Carpenter both of Kansas City, Missouri.

Hubert attended New Life Pentecostal Church under the leadership of his late brother-in-law: Elder James D. Mays. He later attended Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan.

Hubert wore many hats in life. In terms of his work history, he spent the early part of his career in Security, Trans World Airline (TWA), General Motors, many years at Kenworth Trucking Co, 1987 Richard Conover Steel Co., 2002 Kansas City School District where he received the name,

Officer Miles. During his time at the School District, he served as Lead Officer at Northeast High School, Central Jr & Sr High School. He served as chairperson on the Executive Board and was instrumental in developing the SAC Committee (Security Advisory Committee) until his retirement due to his health in 2012. He attributes, his success with the School District to his extensive background in law enforcement for eighteen years and serving as a volunteer for the American Red Cross with the DAT unit. He was also a volunteer for many years with the Jackson County Family Courts mentoring program.

Hubert had a love for volunteering and helping others. Bill, as he was sometime called, was a 22-year veteran with the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was involved in countless Red Cross activities-from coordinating first aid station at community events to coordinating disaster relief-he was known as a regular on the scene of many house fires, especially in Midtown Kansas City. For selfless and humane action in saving the life of his co-worker, he received the American Red Cross Certificated of Merit, the highest award given by the Red Cross which bears the signature of the POTUS Bill Clinton and Chairman of American Red Cross Norman Augustine. As a Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteer he received many awards, one from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and 12th Annual Black Volunteer Award. As he would sometimes say "I volunteer my time because my community needs me."

Hubert also was the owner of his TV Repair shop and was a well-known electrician by trade.

Hubert will be greatly missed, and he leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife and caregiver: Jacqueline Miles; three daughter Zena Miles, Janina Greene, and Shannon Carpenter all of Kansas City, Missouri; two sons; Hubert Miles Jr., and Parrish Miles both of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters: Emily Beeks, and Ruby Baston both of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister-in-law: Annette (Harry) Moore of Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Mario
