Howard Carney, Sr, 96, transitioned to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday January 31, 2020 from his home, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on May 2, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the 7th child of Henry Carney and Callie Cotton Carney.
Mr. Carney began working for Rudy Patrick Seed as a sorter shortly after his first marriage to Mildred Williams, whose union produced five children.
While at the seed company, Howard purchased his first piece of equipment that led him to owning/operating C & C Excavating & Construction Company, from which he retired in 1989. During his illustrious career, Mr. Carney belonged to numerous organizations, including, but not limited to, the Minority Contractors Assn where he was inducted to the very 1st Hall of Fame. Heavy Contractors Assoc, Operators and Hoisting Engineers, signatory to 101 union and 541 union as well as the Urban league are just a few of the many other organizations he belonged. Mr. Carney received a multitude of accommodations, recognitions and awards from local and state agencies, as well as federal affiliations with acknowledgements from past US presidents.
He married Lola Strong August 3, 1995 and added her five children to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Callie Carney, 8 siblings, daughter Juanita Carney and son David Carney.
Howard leaves to cherish his wonderful memories wife, Lola Carney; sons, Howard (Jean) Carney, Jr, Louis (Ethylene) Carney and Richard (Nedra) Carney.
David(Sharon) Strong, Craig Strong, , Cheryle Strong, Keith(Vivian) Strong, Karen(Kenny) Brown; two grandchildren that he raised, Angela(Kossi) Carney and Howard Carney III; and two devoted granddaughters, Tricia Carney and Kelly Carney, and grandson Louis Carney, Jr, as well as a host of grand and great-grandchildren, family members, friends and business associates.
