Celebrating the life and legacy of: Helen B. (Beede) Edwards. Sunrise: August 10, 1945 – Sunset: May 11, 2022.
Helen B. Edwards 76, departed this earthly life on May 11, 2022 peacefully, in her home surrounded by family. Helen was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Willie and Passadena Hughlon who preceded her in death. Helen was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School Blue Tigers, Class of 1963. Helen was a founding member of Freedom Temple Missionary Baptist Church and later rededicated her life to Christ and joined Heart of God Evangelist Ministries, where she sat on the Mother board until her health failed.
Helen was employed with the State of Missouri for thirty three years, and was the first Black Stenographer III in the State. She also rehabbed homes. Helen was a dedicated hard working classy business women. As a result of her work ethic, she was able to retire at age fifty-two and enjoy the rest of her life. Helen had a quite and giving spirit and a huge heart. She was a Foster Grandparent and Grandma to many. Family meant the world and her dying desires were for family to resolve their differences and love on one another. She would always say
“At the end of the day, family is all you have”. Helen had a green thumb and always displayed beautiful landscaping. She enjoyed cooking and everyone was welcome at the table for dinner. You left with a satisfied appetite and knowledge from her many teachings of life lessons.
Helen’s Husband (Kenneth Casey Stengel), Son ( Metzie Edwards III), Two brothers: Eldon Hughlon (Norma), and Archie Hughlon. Three sisters: Wanda Hammons (Leo), Willie Jean Williams(AW), and Jackie Hughlon also preceded her in death.
Helen will be deeply missed by her devoted Daughter/Caregiver Joy (DeeDee) Six grandchildren: Earllonzo (Nicole), Metzie IV, Branden , Nolana, DeJay and Rochelle Edwards.
One brother:Tyrone Hughlon (Brenda) and sister, Shirley Griddine.
Nine great grandchildren: Metzie V, Metzie’ahna, Ka’Modjay, Megan, Milli, Malia, Braelyn , Myale and Alayah Edwards. Nephew, Nicholas Gentry, who was always a phone call away. She relied upon him to carry out various task along with a host of other relatives and friends. Her home and heart was shared with many and her life long friends whom she talked with daily, Ruby McClain.
