Mr. Harold L. Washington, 89, was born in Odessa, Missouri on November 8, 1930 to Mr. Isdore Washington and Lucy Young Jenkins. He was the only child. Harold departed this life Wednesday September 23, 2020 at Research Medical Center. His father, mother and stepfather preceded him in death.
He was a member of St. John Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Terry Lindsey.
After high school at R.T. Coles, he served his country in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged on March 28, 1950.
He was a self-employed Dump Truck driver also over the road tractor truck driver for Yellow Freight.
Harold was an animal lover dogs and horses Pablo and English Bull Dog and K.C. a black quarter horse stud. He road with Hill Top Saddle Club, Twin Cities Saddle Club.
In 1976 he married Berta Woodson Burgette, one child was born to this union.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Berta Washington; two daughters Teresa Gilmore Dallas, Texas, Tia Washington, Kansas City, Missouri; stepdaughter Jocelyn (Kelly) Burgette, Independence, Missouri; five sons Harold L. Washington Jr., California, stepsons Sterling (LaTonya) Burgette Jr., Lees Summit, Missouri, James Burgette, Kansas City, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen greatgrandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
