Ms. Gwendolyn Fay Tyson was born on December 23, 1951 in Kansas City, KS to Robert Lee Mills, Sr and Sybil Lucille Mills. She was the eldest of 3 children. Both parents and nephew, Lamont Mills preceded her in death.
She attended Greenwood Elementary Grade School and Central Sr. High School, graduating with the Class of 1969.
She married Hal Jerome Tyson, Sr and to this union three children were born, Tamara Michelle, Hal Jerome, Jr, and Shanica LaKay.
Gwen held employment with Western Electric, Parmelee Plastics Company and retired from American Micro in November 2021 after 29 years of dedicated service.
She was first baptized as a child at Second Baptist Church. She was born again as an adult and received a Certificate of Baptism on August 6, 2006 after becoming a member of New Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the kitchen committee.
Gwen was very outgoing, loved to socialize and never met a stranger. She immensely enjoyed spending time with family and friends, we meant the world to her and we knew it. She enjoyed reading the Bible and was an avid reader of “Our Daily Bread”. She enjoyed inspirational and motivational books. She was a movie/TV series buff and some of her favorites are various crime series, The Godfather, Scar Face, Ray Donovan, as well as Westerns, Turner Movie Classics, The Hallmark Channel and Golden Girls. She loved old school R&B music. She was a great cook and everyone loved and asked for her fried pork chops, dressing, sweet potato pie and her famous strawberry cake. She even mastered her mom’s delicious pound cake. Her generosity, kind spirit and fun-loving personality will be greatly missed!
