Born August 15, 1956 to the union of Curtis & Cassie Marie McNeely; the
3rd child and described as always talking, talks a lot & loves to talk. Her parents, grandparents, Louis and Georgia McNeely, William and Geneva Roberson,
several aunts and uncles and son, Elliott Herring preceded her in death.
Gwen attended school in Kansas City, Missouri at Kathering B Richardson Elementary, Northeast Middle School, Manual Extension on 39th, Graduating from Paseo High
School in 197 4. Gwen served as Paseo Class President,Center Ciry Neighborhood President, Shining Star Chapter of ABWA, Darcus Sewing Circle Facilitator.
Gwen completed coursework, certified as Unit Secretary from Metro
Tech, and office machines coursework in South El Monte, California and KCPD Community Policing Certificate. Gwen worked for D's Corner Grocer, a child care worker, opened
her own day care, Trinity Lutheran Hospital, IRS, Belzer' s Cleaning and Restoration
and H&R Block.
Gwen was taught and obeyed the Gospel at Swope Parkway Church of Christ. She loved
to study and often held cottage classes in her home. She taught youth & teen classes,
was helpful in creating the youth chorus while a Twin City Church of Christ, worked with Senior Ministry, Black History programs, Hat N Heels Program and sang in the
Downtown Chorus.
Gwen loved to entertain, travel, shop, go out to eat and encourage others. She challenged herself to learn new baking skills and called herself "The Casserole Queen". She loved to cook too.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Xavier Herring, siblings, Khair Azim, Lois McNeely, Courtney (Betty) McNeely, special friends: Frances Harding, Phyllis Farnsworth, Beatrice Thomas and Victoria Ralls, adopted sisters: Sonya Bell, Patricia Magruder and Veronica Byars. Several "Daughters" Amia Jones-Norton, Sharon Graham and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.
