Gerry Phillips

Gerry Wayne Phillips, passed away on June 02, 2023, in Independence, MO. He was 65. Gerry was born September 15, 1957, to Mr. Marvin Phillips and Maxine (Carson) Phillips and was the second of three children. Gerry’s parents preceded him in death.

A few years after his birth, Gerry moved with his family to Kansas City. Gerry accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Gerry, affectionally nicknamed ‘Duffy/Ducky’, completed his general studies in the Kansas City public schools and graduated from Manuel High School in 1975.

Gerry was a hard worker and great provider. Gerry took pride in providing for his family and loved them dearly. Gerry would visit with family members stopping by to enjoy each other and reminisce about the good times. Gerry was a protector and did all he could to be there for anyone who reached out to him. Whether to lend a hand, be a listening ear, to give advice or an encouraging word, to follow up to check on you or, if needed, to show up himself, Gerry wanted to help make any struggle with a tough time easier.

Gerry’s hobby was automobiles. Gerry loved working on cars! Gerry’s gift in automobile mechanics was taught to him by his father. Gerry excelled in knowledge of automobiles and spoke fondly of the moments shared with his father. Whenever challenged, Gerry would stop, replay the mechanics in his mind, return to the task and finish successfully. Gerry credited all his successes with stories, smiles, and laughter in remembrance of his father.

Gerry worked in the Transportation field and held various positions. Gerry found his niche in truck driving and became a FTL truck driver. Gerry loved being a truck driver and would encourage anyone he could to learn the craft. Gerry’s employment ended working for Ford Motor Company.

Gerry is survived by his wife of 28 years, Reshandia Y. Phillips, his sister Rita G. Prince, Brother Marvin Stanley Phillips, Maternal Uncle Troy Carson and Maternal Aunt Bonnie Jo (Carson) Ellingberg. Gerry also had another brother, Larry Carson (passed). Gerry had 9 children Taquitra Fleming; Ronell Rosalez; Cedric Rosalez (passed); Curtis Fleming; Candance Craddock; Justin Phillips; Jessica (Phillips) Holloway; Gerry W. Phillips II; and Gerrin T. Phillips (passed). Gerry had 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends
