Gayla Burton “Angel” 53, departed her life on July 5, 2020 at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. She was born on February 20, 1967 to Leroy Hicks and Ida McKinnon of Columbia, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her father Leroy Hicks, one son Antonio Thompson, two aunts Shirley Williams and Teresa Jo Williams, two nieces Ebony Hicks and Precious Williams, stepfather Carson Williams, and sister/cousin Natalie Williams.
Gayla Burton known as “Angel” to her family, friends, and anyone who knew her. She graduated with her diploma CNA license from the Kansas City Missouri School District. She worked as a private duty nurse for 4 years and she also worked for many nursing homes. She also was the manager at McDonalds for many years. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Ground Level Ministries under the leadership of Melvin Merritt before her illness.
Angel enjoyed playing bingo, hanging with family and friends, socializing, cooking, specialty cheesecakes. She just enjoyed her life to the fullest.
Gayla leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Robert Lee Harrison; mother, Ida McNeal; four sons, Anthony Thompson, Shaquille Thompson, Tony Thompson, Antwan Thompson; three daughters, Ciera McKinnon, Shaquilla Thompson, and Antoinette Thompson; her grandmother, Mattie Holloway; four brothers, Bernard (Barbara) McKinnon, Micheal (Karen) Hicks, Shawn (Florence) Hicks, Marshall (Belinda) Galbreath; four sisters, Tiara McKinnon, Debra (Alvin) Harris, Wilma (Walter) Wells, Iberia Harvey; two best friends; Janice Drake and Shirly Ceasar, and a host grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts uncles, other relatives and friends.
