She accepted Christ at a very early age, and attended First Baptist Church in Shreveport. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri and joined Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. About that time, she met Milton H. Johnson, and later they were married in 1966. To this union two children were born, Jon E. Johnson and Milton D. Johnson.
