Ernest Gibson Obituary

Ernest Gibson was born on February 20, 1958, to Leon V. Gibson Sr. and Dorothy M. Gibson in Kansas City, MO. Ernest was the third child of this union. Ernest is preceded in death by his father, Leon V. Gibson Sr.; brother, Kenneth Gibson; sister, Beverly Gibson; his maternal grandmother, Josephine Lewis; and his paternal grandmother, Ella Carroll.

Known as “Gene” or “Geno” to family and friends, Gene graduated from Lincoln High School in 1976. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army. At an early age Gene accepted Christ and was baptized. Later in life he joined Sunlight Baptist Church under the Leadership of Rev. Julius Rambo Sr. He maintained his membership at Sunlight under the Leadership of Rev. Rickey Rambo.

Gene loved to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports and talking about his ball playing days. He enjoyed playing softball with the Mad Dogs Softball Team that consisted of an uncle who was also the manager, several cousins, and close neighborhood friends. He enjoyed two-stepping, and just being the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when Gene was around, he always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. Everyone you talk to can tell you about a laughable encounter with Gene. He will always be remembered for saying “Eeerrelevant” whenever he couldn’t think of a quick comeback; or the hundreds of times he’d get a new phone and say “Put your number in my phone”; or if you laughed at him, he’d say “A kekeke yo A**” because he couldn’t respond to you with something smarter or sassier. Another one of his sayings is, “Son of a Queen, King of my castle.” Gene never met a stranger. If you didn’t know any better you would think you were not only his best friend but his ONLY friend. Gene will truly be missed!

On September 22, 2021, Gene took on the wings of an angel to go home to be with his Heavenly Father.

Gene leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Dorothy; wife Tanya; daughter, Shanta (Talib); three grandchildren, J’Yawn, Zuri, and Hasan; two brothers, Leon Jr., and Gary; four sisters, Bonnett (who later passed on Sept. 30th), Evelyn, Chelle (Rob), and Teresa all of Kansas City, MO; a host of “Nieces to Pieces'' (as Gene called them), nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family and friends, including those he considered sisters, brothers, and cousins.
