Eric Courtney Obituary

Eric Clell Courtney,62, passed away on December 2, 2019 at Hospice House Kansas City. He was born on September 23, 1957 in Kansas City MO to Ereea Courtney and Hester Pledger. He graduated from Lincoln High School in KCMO. Eric joined the United States Coastguard in January 1976 and served until January 1982. During his time of service, he was the recipient of the CG Meritorious Unit. He also received an award the Commendation Ribbon. Eric began work for the KC Water Department as a wastewater worker, where he worked for 16 years. Eric also worked for the KC Call paper for numerous amounts of years, as his cherished part time job. Eric retired in 2018 after 16 years. He was involved in Doon Buggy riding, playing dominoes, local 500 unions, a family man, and other fun activities. Eric “Bayboy” was a wonderful devoted family man to his entire family. He was loving, caring, supportive, devoted, reliable, once in a lifetime husband, brother, uncle, son, friend, cousin, and dad. He was a true friend and never met a stranger. He was generous and red cross to the rescue whenever anyone called him. Eric married Valerie Evans on February 23, 2018 in KCMO. They were happily married for 1 year and 9 months. He was preceded into death by his father Ereea Courtney, Mother Hester Courtney, and sister Linda Tanner.

He is survived by Valerie Courtney, Spouse, BeAsia McKerracher, daughter, Dionna Courtney, daughter, siblings; Jeanette Dillard of Carrolton, TX, Celena Courtney-Jones (Mark) of San Francisco, California, Gail Carter, Angel Pledger Courtney, Kim Courtney-Cregett, Kathy J Courtney of Raleigh North Carolina, nephews and Nieces; Ronnell Jackson, Thomas Jackson (Sherina) of Carrollton, Texas, Donnell Courtney, Thomas Courtney, Glenn “Bang” Cregett, Lorinda Rolle (Eugene) Muriel Williams, Charma Adams (Charles) of Carson, California. Stepchildren; Jessica Evans, Josh Evans (Shaundreka), Janea Brown (Jonathan), Jerrell Evans, Tawana Wright-Johnson. grandchildren; LaDayshia, Koriana, Dionna Jr, Essence, Asase. Stepchildren; Marvell II, Mickhail, Lux, Edward Jr., Jayda, Kali, Josh Jr., Jayla, Maleah, Jeremiah, Jerrell Jr and a host of other relatives and friends.
