Elder John Westley Butler Jr., age 80, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away, April 22, 2022, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.
John Butler Jr was born in February 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Kansas City Public Schools. He earned a master’s degree in Pastoral Theology from Heart of America Christian College and Theological Seminary.
He was married to his wife Sharon Barr Butler for twenty-one years. John was actively involved with his church as Elder, Sunday School teacher and director of Member Care. He and his wife served as spiritual and marital counselors and facilitated marriage retreats.
During the Covid pandemic he founded Brothers of Light Bible Study and support ministry. He loved traveling with his wife and spending quality time with family and serving others. He also loved football and was a Chiefs fan.
He worked for the Post Office of Kansas City for 9 years; as an Air Traffic Controller for Federal Aviation Administration for 36 years; Contracted Air Traffic Controller instructor for 10 years, worked as a Supervisor for the Census Bureau for 1 year.
John Butler Jr. is survived by his wife Sharon Butler of Kansas City, 2 daughters Carmen Butler, Bridget Berry, 1 stepson Edwards Davis (Monica) 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 7 God children and numerous others who called him Dad.
