Edgar Rollins Sr. Obituary

April 5th, 1946, in Nashville, Arkansas, Amanda and Otis Rollins welcomed a set of gifted twin boys into the world. The second arriving twin was named Edgar Rollins; that child would later become our Dad. His parents, Stepfather, Luther Riddle, twin brother Edward, sister Ernestine Rollins-Craven, 3 brothers, Roy, Sonny and Herbert Rollins, and a beautiful granddaughter, Valerie M. Rollins, preceded him in death.

In 1952, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Wendell Phillips Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Central Senior High School in 1965. He was voted "Jolly Good" by his peers.

As a child, Dad attended Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor L.B. Jones. While attending Paradise, he accepted Christ. He attended Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Shortly after high school, he began dating his beautiful classmate, Brenda Stuckey. They married on April 3, 1966. That same year, our parents welcomed their first child, LaTonya Renee. The young family joined Greater Corinthian "GC" Baptist Church (which later became Non-Denominational) in 1967 under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Davis, Jr. Dad was called to the Ministry in 1968. He became an ordained Minister in 1972, which gave him the title, “Reverend”. Rev. Rollins and his wife would have 3 additional children, Yolonda Helen, Kenyetta Cherice, and Ed Jr. In 1996 our bonus sister, Sherrie Elaine was adopted into our family along with her 3 beautiful daughters.

He was employed as a Meter Reader for MGE for many years. He retired from MGE and later worked as a Building Custodian with the Kansas City School District to which he retired a second time.

Rev. Rollins was an anointed Man of God with the gift of Prophecy. GC members would oftentimes find the service respectfully interrupted due to God speaking to and through him. Rev. Rollins grew stronger and stronger in the Word of God. He studied faithfully. He was a Sunday School teacher, choir director, singer, and mentor to many. He remained a member of Greater Corinthian, under the leadership of Pastor Eric Jerome Roberson, until his passing.

Because of Rev. Rollins' leadership abilities, and strong "no nonsense" personality, the late Victor Jones, Director of Joy Unlimited Community Choir of Kansas City, asked him to be the Manager and Spiritual Advisor to the group. Without hesitation, he accepted. Rev. Rollins would let Joy Unlimited singers, musicians and directors know when we were not doing what God called us to do. He would not hold back his chastisement when it was called for. Next to being called to the Ministry, managing Joy Unlimited was one of his proudest moments.

Our Dad loved playing basketball and was very good at it. He was very artistic. He could draw anything free handed. In 1988 our mom bought him his first video camera. That piece of equipment put his artistic characteristics to the forefront. Dad became Kansas City's "go to" Videographer. He videoed weddings, funerals, musicals, family events, church services, birthday parties, the tearing down and building up of buildings and much more. He has captured thousands of events in the span of 30 plus years. His professionalism was seen through his video footage. In 2018 he was honored for his Videography Ministry.

Surrounded by his family, our Dad took his final breath on April 10th, 2022 on Palm Sunday. He was 76 years old.

Dad will forever be remembered by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Rollins, children; LaTonya Rollins, Raytown, Mo, Yolonda Rollins, Kenyetta Rollins, Edgar (Shareda) Rollins, Jr., and Sherrie (Vernon) Lee of Kansas City, MO.
