Douglas Davis Obituary

Douglas Ray Davis was born on March 2, 1942 in Morrilton, Arkansas to the union of Garland and Harriet Davis who have preceded him in death.  Douglas departed this life on Thursday, May 28, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was one of thirteen children,  his siblings Floyd, Flora, Maybell,  Reese, and Cleophus have preceded him in death.

Douglas accepted Christ at Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 10 years old. He was educated in the Conway County School District where he received his high school diploma in 1961 from Conway County High School in Menifee, Arkansas.  After graduation he served in the United States Army from 1964-1966. Thereafter, he took a job working for General Motors in their assembly plant.

On November 22, 1969 he married Ora Webb. Together they raised one daughter Monica Faye. Due to Douglas’s love for his family and landscaping he started Doug’s Lawn & Garden in 1975. Thereafter, he retired from General Motors in 1979, so he could commit to his business full time. Douglas loved working & beautifying his community as well as providing employment to the underserved.  Also, Douglas loved working in his church’s  bus ministry, trustee and deacon board  at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr. and thereafter his son Rev. Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, II.

Douglas leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 50 years  Ora,  daughter Monica (Samuel), granddaughters Samantha & Monique, brothers, Charles (Dorothy), Audrey (Flossie Jean), Abel (Theresa), Jerry and Terry; sisters, Hygia, Georgia (Willie) and Marian (George); and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
