Dorothy Hall Obituary

Dr. Hall was born on September 21, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Robert R. and Mary Lee (Holmes) Johnson.  She was the fifth of twelve children.  She was preceded in by death her spouse, parents and 9 siblings.

She received her primary education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1951.  Dr. Hall was an advocate of education and received the following degrees: Associate of Arts from Lincoln Junior College in 1953, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lincoln University in 1956, Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Columbia University Teachers College in 1962.  Her certifications include Elementary Teaching and Elementary Principal in the State of Missouri.

Dr. Hall was an elementary school teacher, eventually progressing to the position of Instructional Facilitator.  After 35 years of working in the field of secular education the Holy Ghost moved within her inner most being which helped her to know the balance of her life should be given wholly to the work of the Lord.  Dr. Hall retired from the public school system on January 31, 1992.

Recognizing her purpose and God given talent, she began teaching Sunday School and was elevated to Sunday School Superintendent.  Later, she became the Director of Christian Education.

Her passion for education continued in the religious sector as she obtained her Teacher Certificate and Master Teacher Certificate from the Charles Harrison Mason System of Bible Colleges (Church of God in Christ) in 1975 and 1976 respectively.  Additionally, she earned her Diploma of Practical Theology and her Doctor of Divinity from the International Seminary in 1993 and 1996 respectively.

She came into the knowledge of God at an early age.  At the age of 10, her pastor, Elder F. T. Taylor chose her to be the “card class” teacher.  She continued to work in the church in the Sunday School, Sunshine Band, and YPWW Departments.

She joined Holy Temple later to become Greater Holy Temple COGIC under the leadership of Bishop C. N. Rucker and served in the following capacities: Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer and Trustee.  On the Jurisdictional level she served as District Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Field Representative, and Direct of Religious Education.

In 2002 she became a charter member of Redemption COGIC founded by Pastor Thuston Packnett Sr.  She served faithfully as the Director of Christian Education until her health no longer permitted.  As such attending her last worship experience at Trinity Temple COGIC under the pastorage of Bishop Benjamin Stephens III.

On the natural side, there came “Billy.”  She met him in church.  He was wearing blue and a striking white hat.  As time went on, they had a ball, became one - - Mr. and Mrs. Hall. They were married on January 24, 1957, and raised two children, Ronald and LaQuina.
