Doris Redmond Obituary

Doris Louise Redmond, 80, passed away on May 10, 2020 at Kansas City Specialty Hospital, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on April 30, 1940 in McAlister, Oklahoma to the divine union of Hudy and Timothy Miles. Doris was the oldest of seven children; six girls and one boy. She spent her youth in McAlister, and she graduated from L’Ouverture High School in 1958 also located in McAlister, Oklahoma. After high school Doris and her family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. Shortly after relocating to Kansas City, Doris spent some time in St. Louis, Missouri working with her uncle, before returning back to Kansas City. She worked various jobs until she took a position with Avon Products where she worked for more than thirteen years. After Avon Products relocated their headquarters to Atlanta, Doris enrolled in business college where she obtained skills that allowed her the opportunity to begin working in various office settings. She later ended her career with City Corp where she remained until her retirement.

On December 15, 1960, Doris joined in Holy Matrimony with Arthur Eugene Riddle and to that union four children were born; two boys and two girls. Later, she married Arthur Lee Redmond on November 19, 1994 and remained married to him until his death in 2009.

Doris came to know the Lord as a young adult where she became a faithful member of Sacred Mission Baptist Church with her family under the leadership of Elder Williams. She later joined New Life Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother-in-law, Pastor James Mays. Years later she joined Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan. More recently, as her health permitted, she attended Kingdom Connections Worship Center under the leadership of her son Elder Eric Riddle, Sr.

Doris was a very compassionate, loving and giving person. Her hospitality was demonstrated to family, friends and even extended to strangers. All those who were around her loved her quiet and meek spirit. Although she was quiet, she was mighty in sound wisdom and thoughtfulness. If Doris said something, she meant what she said. She enjoyed attending gospel plays, visiting various church ministries, church conferences, bowling, cooking and listening to gospel music. She was a consistent support and help to her family in various ways. She often worked behind the scene doing whatever she could to help whenever needed.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; Hudy and Timothy Miles; her spouse Arthur Redmond; three sisters, Rosalind Yvonne Lewis, Delores Ann Mays and Nina Mae Brown. Three nephews and three nieces.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Arthur T. Riddle, of Kansas City, MO and Eric J. Riddle, Sr. (Cynthia) of Belton, MO. Two daughters, Bonita Conley (Gregory), of Raytown, MO and LaTonya Gordon of Grandview, MO. Adopted son Day’Smyne Redmond of the home. One brother, Hubert Miles (Jacqueline). Two sisters, Emily Miles-Beeks and Ruby Miles-Baston all of Kansas City, MO. Twelve grandchildren, Eric Riddle, Jr., LaToya Witherspoon (Darius), Coleece Riddle, DeWayne Gordon, Arthur (TJ) Riddle, DeRon Riddle, Anthony Riddle, Desmond Gordon, Destiny Gordon and Jayden Riddle. Two bonus grandchildren Kristopher Martin and Terry (TJ) Brown. Nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
