Derrick Lamont Handley, was born on October 18, 1972 to Varonia Handley-Heard and Bennie Walsh, Jr.
He attended Westport High School but later obtained his GED.
Derrick was a fun, loving and giving person. He never met anyone that he considered a stranger. Once you met him and he met you, there was a forever connection. Derrick would give you his last dime, the shirt off his back and his shoes off his feet literally. He loved and treasured his family. He would do anything in the world for anyone. He loved to travel. His favorite place to visit was Denver, Colorado where he lived for 15 years with his brother Andre. He loved to feed people and wanted to ensure that “everyone was cool.”
Derrick departed this life on August 7, 2021. His Maternal Grandparents, Felton and Leona Handley and his Paternal Grandparents, Bennie Walsh, Sr and Vivian George. Uncles Mark McAfee, Richard Bradley, Charles Walsh, Felton Handley, Jr., Jerome Handley, Robert Eugene Handley, Clinton Handley. Aunts Tracey Pearson and Irene Walsh all preceded him to glory.
He leaves to cherish in his loving memories, his mother Varonia Heard and Kennon Heard of the home, his father Bennie Walsh, Jr. (Renae) of Temple, Tx. Four sons, Derrick Ikerd of KCMO, DJ Palmore, Deondre Love and DeVante Derrick Handley, all of Denver, Colorado. Daughters, Rayvon Foster and Dani Love-Miller of Denver, Colorado. Four brothers, Andre Handley, Roland Mitchell, Bennie Walsh, III (Mia) of KCMO and Derrick Barnes (Stacia) of Lee’s Summit, Mo. Five sisters, Rhonda Handley (James) of KCKS, N’Tichell’e (Nikki) Oliver, Erica Mason of OPKS, Kimberly Rhodes of KCMO and Kendra Heard of Raleigh, North Carolina. Aunts, Kathy Handley, Sharon Wynn, Norma Nelson, Sharon Heard-Clopton of KCKS and Stephanie London (Gregg) of KCMO. Uncles, Danny Handley, Kevin Handley (Linda), Harold Dennis (Jamesetta) of KCMO and Gary Bradley (Selena), Darrell Heard, Marcus Heard of KCKS. He leaves special cousins Shantay Keys and Connie Handley of KCKS. He leaves twelve grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
