Chrystal VanDunk Obituary

Chrystal Mercedes VanDunk, known by Christine, 62, of Kansas City, Missouri transitioned from life on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Truman Medical Center. Chrystal was born December 17, 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas at The University of Kansas Medical Center to Rudolph VanDunk and Te'Ethel Gatewood. She is preceded in death by her mother, Te"Ethel Gatewood; and Grandson Kylan Holder. 

Christine was educated in the Kansas City School District. She obtained her high school diploma from East High School. She continued her education at University of Missouri. Christine cherished and loved her role as an educator. She dedicated her life to taking care of children. Christine started the first part of her journey of 20 years at The Together Center; where she touched so many children lives and left a make lasting impression. For the last 13 years she was an teacher at Union Hill Day School. Where her positive, outgoing, compassionate, vibrant personality was a joy. The love, support and care she gave to everyone she came across was noting short of  captivating. She left her footprint in some many people lives. 

Christine was a diehard Chiefs Fan. She sported her chiefs gear all the time. She love watching the game with her son and daughter in law. She also had a skilled no one could touch; a Master Seamstress. She could sew wedding and prom dresses, and can make any outfit by looking at it. She enjoyed knitting, word puzzles, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Her house in Chip Village was the life of the parties and the place to be. Christine found great joy in being a phenomenal mom to Ismail but also being a great second mother, aunt and teacher to many. She established close relationships with her students, their parents, and just about everyone she took in and it last throughout. 

She is survived by her one and only son, William Ismail Wells (Erica); two brothers, Elbert VanDunk (Bridget) and Kevin Oliver (Sara); one sister, Sherry Baker (Fred); four grandchildren Marquis, Mekai, Abgail, & Harper;  her god children, Donald Smith, Dondra Smith and Danielle Ford; special friend, Tony; best friend, Sandra Watson, and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
