Charles Drone Obituary

Charles Edward Drone was born on November 18, 1955 in Little Rock, AR to Daniel and Verlene Drone. He was the oldest of nine siblings. He was preceded in death by his mother Verlean Drone, his son Derrick Lamont Horton Sr., and two brothers Gerald and David Drone.

Charles was raised in the church. He was baptized at Bethel Pentecostal in Kansas City, KS as a child.

Charles graduated in 1975 from Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO.

Charles and Lois Taylor (Lewis) were married for 25 years and together they raised their 5 children LaTochia, Maurice, Dominique, Derrick, and Shalise.

Charles was an entrepreneur. He began his entrepreneurship journey with City Side Janitorial Service, he then purchased 12 houses and a 4 plex to rent (over several years), he had several home daycares, and lastly he had his pride and joy Charlie D’s Catfish Cabin with locations in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Arizona. Everyone knows his famous slogan “Make Mine Charlie D’s Please!”

Charles loved to eat and hang out with family and friends. He loved to crack jokes, make up funny slogans, and just have a good time.  One of his proudest moments was that he got to be Muhammad Ali’s bodyguard for a day when he worked at Dillards.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his fiancé Rozena Lewis of Kansas City, MO, his children LaTochia Dew of Kansas City, KS, Maurice Purnell Sr. of Blue Springs, MO, Dominique Horton of Kansas City, MO, Shalise Drone of Kansas City, KS, Chaka Pleasant of Gary, IN., and daughter in law Christin Horton of Kansas City, KS. His father Daniel Drone (Mary) of Little Rock, AR. His siblings Harry Drone of Kansas City, MO, Roy Drone of Independence, MO, Rhae Johnson (Allen) of Charlotte, NC, Linda Townsend of Kansas City, MO, Cleveland Drone (Sharon) of Kansas City, MO, and Danielle Drone of Kansas City, MO. He also leaves his grandchildren MJ, Brandi, Markeya, Meghan, Oshe’anna, Dakota, Derrick Jr., Sydni, Gabrielle, Zion, Jaedis, Eionna, Emanii, Adaiyah, Khalil, Marissa, great granddaughter Alison, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
