Betty Goodine Obituary

Betty Jean Goodine, 72, passed away on April 20, 2021 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Ks. She was born on February 23, 1949 in Kansas City, Mo to Esau and Minnie L. Jackson. She was the youngest of four children: three girls and one boy.

She grew up in Kansas City, Mo where she graduated from Manuel High School. After high school, she attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education and Minor in Art.

Betty began working for the Kansas City Missouri School District as a classroom teacher. She also taught as an art and computer teacher. She taught using the Global Learning approach where the student not only studied a particular place but visited the place they studied. She took over 50 students each time to enrich their learning. These and other students also visited her home and came to church with her. She taught in the KCMO School District for 40 years until she retired in 2002. Betty was once chosen by UMKC (University of Missouri in Kansas City) to be a model teacher where other teachers would observe her teaching techniques.

Betty grew up as a “Pk” (Preacher’s kid). No matter what she was doing, she always involved God. Because of this upbringing, she had to wear many “hats”. She sang in the choir, was a church secretary, served as an usher, and taught Sunday School. Prior to her passing, she was a faithful member of Deeper Life Christian Ministries. She wore many “hats” outside of the church as well. She was a LINC Site Director and worker, a gifted writer and talented drawer and was great at creating things from nothing. She created the Actors for Christ drama troop as well as her printing business, God’s Creative Designs. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Betty met Bobby Lee Goodine at New Home Church of God in Christ, where her father was the pastor. They began a courtship and things began to blossom quickly. Bobby was the type of guy that would woo her with flowers and cards. During the early stages of their courtship, she thought it was kind of corny, but in the end, it won her over. She married Bobby on July 31, 1977 in Kansas City, Mo. They were married for 41 years.

Betty was a very smart, intelligent, and crafty lady. There was not much she could not do. If someone needed a science project, they would call her. Most of the children in the family knows about the bean embryo experiment. It won first place every time at the Science Fair! She was known as the “cool” aunt. She was the one that strayed away for a portion of her life. She had the nice clothes, nice cars, and cleanest house. Saved or unsaved, Betty kept a clean house! Unfortunately, but thankfully, a flood ran her back into the arms of Jesus. She never looked back!

She was preceded into death by Esau Jackson (father), Minnie L. Jackson (mother), Pearlie M. Mitchell (sister), Esau Jackson Jr. (brother) and Bobby L. Goodine (husband). She is survived by her daughter Kea’ (Ashton) Cole, grandsons Ashton Jr., Jacob, and her sister Sue Davis (Raymore, Mo). She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
