Bernadette Jean Bond, born Bernadette Rosborough, passed away on March 3, 2021 at Anthology of Burlington Creek in Kansas City, MO. She was born to James and Daisy Mae Rosborough Sr. on November 29, 1958 in Kansas City, KS, where she grew up. She was the third of nine children.
Bernadette, more affectionately known as Bernie, graduated from Westport High School in 1976. She would later complete a Bachelor's degree at Park University and a Masters degree at Avila University after the age of 48 while working full time.
She spent a number of years as a receptionist at St. Joseph Hospital and also at the Jackson County Circuit Courts. Despite the odds, at the age of 36 she decided to enter the police academy. She was appointed to the Kansas City MO police department on July 9, 1995. Over the course of her 17 year career, she achieved the rank of Sergeant, and her assignments included South Patrol Division, Employment Section, DARE Section, Internal Affairs, East Patrol Division, Robbery Unit, Robbery-Special Victims Unit and Community Support Division where she was assigned at the time of her retirement.
Bernadette had a passion for working with young people. She spent a lot of time working with the DARE program as well as with Special Olympics. Most importantly, she loved her family. She was a loving Nana to her nine grandchildren and her great granddaughter.
She was a dedicated member of St. James UMC-Renaissance Campus, where she was a lay leader, member of the usher board, the dance ministry, and praise and worship team.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her Big Mom (Willie Mae Stuckey); and her son in law (Corey Stennis).
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Derrick Rosborough, Alicia Stennis, and LaToya Flowers; her daughter in law: Shonta’; and her son in law: Mike; her grandchildren: LaNisha, Trillion, Bryanah, Raegan, LaBreah, Corey II, Harper, Avery, and Mikey; her great granddaughter: Liberty; her siblings: James Rosborough Jr. (Gail), Debra Burbanks, Roberta Scott (Julius), Jeffery Carter (Denise), Janet Carter, Toi Findley, Adrian Langston, and David Langston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
