Bennie L. Asberry, 82, passed away on May 23, 2022 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on March 28, 1940 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to David Asberry and Zenobia Littlejohn-Asberry. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where he attended Central High School. After high school he began working for the U.S. Post Office and eventually retired from Owens Corning in 1998. Additionally, he was a member of The Muskateer Association. In his spare time, he loved to bowl, shoot pool, and go to the Casino. He also loved his Stetson hats and cowboy boots. He married is spouse, Colleen Asberry on October 15, 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were happily married for 28 years.
He was preceded into death by his parents, David and Zenobia Asberry; daughter, Vernita Asberry; and brothers Elmer Lee Asberry and David Lee Asberry.
He is survived by his spouse, Colleen Asberry; son, Mark Asberry (Karla Asberry); daughter Terri Jones (Gary Jones Sr.); sisters Ella Asberry-Walls and Lula Dunmore (Willie Dunmore); granddaughter, Shanae Okpewho (Michael Okpewho); grandsons, Malcolm Asberry and Gary Jones Jr.; great-granddaughter, Kennedi Okpewho; stepson, Lorn Brown III; step granddaughters, Destinee Brown and Aunani Walker; step grandsons, Armond Brown and Latrell Brown; step great-granddaughter Junnie B Harris, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home June 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Twelve Gates Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will gather after the burial at Marlborough Community Center.
