Barbara Pamela Lee Ross, 64 passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022. She was born to the late Winston Black, Sr. and Jewell Mae Harris on March 13, 1958 in Dell AR. Her brothers Michael Ross, Winston Black Jr., sisters Charlene (Chip) Coleman, Armour Jean Ross, Phillistene Ross, and Mary June Black all preceded her in death. She is survived by her brothers Norman Carter (Eustis, FL), Jackie Ross (Grandview, MO), Larry Black (Blytheville, AR) and sisters Carolyn (Larry) King (Raytown, MO), Cathy Ambrus (Kansas City, MO), Jeweldene Black (New York, NY), Vernice Black, Harriet Black, and Gloria (Cookie) Black all of Atlanta, GA.
Barbara was raised in Benton Harbor, MI. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1976. She accepted Christ at an early age at Hopewell Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, MI. Upon graduation she moved to Kansas City, MO and eventually retired from Southwestern Bell Corporation in 2008 after completing 30 years of service.
Barbara was a very giving person who truly loved her family. She was very selfless and was always concerned of others. This was very evident during her illness. Barbara was a tough and strong woman who endured a tough childhood. This prepared her for her greatest task in life which was fighting through her illness. Her passions in life included shopping, cooking, interior decorating, and was highly skilled at “mooching meals”.
She was full of wisdom and had an uncanny knack of reading people. Barbara may have not had children but she was very instrumental in assisting in raising a lot of our younger generation. She also was the care giver for our family when they faced illness.
All whom loved her dearly will never forget her undying love and care for them. She will be missed and forever in our hearts.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Barbara’s good friend Humphrey Planer. You were there every step of her journey. Your care for her will not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
