Audrey Fay Tillman was born on July 24, 1952 to Brent and Nora Lee Tillman. She passed away at the age of 68, in Kansas City, MO on March 27, 2021.
Born and raised in Jackson, MS, she was lovingly called Honey. She remained in Mississippi into her formative years to attend the local HBCU, Jackson State University. During her time at Jackson State she fostered her love for writing. Throughout her life she won various awards for original poetry. She passed this passion and creativity to her children and grandchildren.
She left college to join the Air Force in 1972. During her time of service she achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT), which was a major accomplishment for a black woman during that time. SSGT Audrey Tillman was honorably discharged from the Air Force after 7 years of service. Her medals include earning the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) and Air Force Good Conduct Medal (AFGCM).
She is survived by seven children: Joi, Geoffrey, Jasmine, Jerusha, Julius, Joelle, and Jameson, ten grandchildren: Xavier, Lyndsay, Sydney, Aaliyah, Evangeline, Journey, Augustus, Elijah, Asher and Avery, and two great grandchildren: Xaire and Xia.
