Anthony Wilbert Grant, was born March 26th, 1943 to parents Zinnia Benjamin and Archie Grant. Anthony, lovingly known to everyone as “Tony,” lived in Brooklyn, New York, where he enjoyed the liveliness of the city before moving to Oceanside, California. He enjoyed traveling, and ultimately settled in Kansas City, Mo where he spent the rest of his years. Anthony was a strong and passionate man who loved his family and friends deeply. He had a magnetic personality that stuck with everyone who knew him, and he always displayed kindness with a good balance of humor. In 1988, Anthony accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church of Kansas City, Mo. Anthony soon met the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Taylor. Patricia became Anthony’s wife/significant other and they shared a long, happy and special love that lasted 28 years.
Anthony was a dedicated and hardworking employee who served 25 years at ThyssenKrupp Access. He worked as a machinist until his retirement in 2010. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Anthony especially loved to visit his children and grandchildren and always made an effort to be there for special occasions such as weddings and graduations. He also made sure to attend the Marine Corps reunions in several states throughout the country. Anthony was a life-long Steelers fan. He became a fan in the 1970’s which was the decade of the team’s infamous “Iron Curtain.” He attended afternoon games at the Steelers Fan Club, where he has been a member since 1994. You would never catch him without wearing one of his many Steelers caps.
Anthony also took joy in the simple things in life. He loved to sit on his porch and listen to smooth jazz while sipping on what he called “cocktail pops” and smoking a cigarette. He also loved to greet his neighbors and the neighborhood children. Anthony was loved by everyone who knew him. He was witty and a very sharp dresser. He took pride in his appearance, even if he didn’t have an outing planned. Sometimes he would splash on his favorite cologne and throw on his favorite casual attire just to relax in the house and catch up on sports on ESPN.
He is survived by his children, Andrea Babb, Gary Grant, Warren Grant, Tracy Grant, Mark Johnson, Pharon Johnson, Tiffani Manigat (Styves), Anthony Grant, Jr. (Brie) Michael Shipley (Shaneika), Latanya Dunn, (Derrick); mother-in-law: Sadie Taylor; fourteen loving grandchildren; six loving great grandchildren, and a host of sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and plenty of friends.
