Angela Ridley Obituary

Angela LaShawn Ridley, a Christian, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and a friend left her earthly home and made her heavenly transition on Monday, November 16, 2020.  Her transition left a void in many lives.

Her mere existence began as a “bundle of joy” to Sharon Ridley and Carlton Ridley, Jr. on August 20, 1970.

II Timothy 4:7-8 explicitly describes her journey, the last fourteen months as “I have fought a good fight.  I have finished my course.   I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me all that day.”

Striving to contribute to God, her family and society, the legacy of Angela’s life is one of determination and persistency.

Angela’s formal education was with the Kansas City Missouri School District.  She attended Blenheim, Graceland and Korte Elementary, Southeast Middle, and graduated from Southeast High School in 1988. Realizing the importance of pursuing life-long goals, she continued her education at Penn Valley College and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree.  Family and friends applauded and were proud of her educational accomplishment.

Her Christian Education was gained from the Friendship Baptist Church.  She was baptized under the pastorship of Rev. I. H. Henderson, Jr.  She was very active with the Youth Ministry under the leadership of Sis. Beverly Robinson. In her Adult Life, she was a compassionate, alert and cautious driver for the Bus Ministry of the Friendship Church.

The joy of her life was her children Andrew, Ronald, and Ashley.  Being a devoted mother, she participated as a South Suburban Football/Basketball Mom, Girl Scout Supporter, etc. She was always there giving her children all she could.  Whatever their needs and wants were, she provided unconditionally, demonstrated by her passionate characteristics of affection, devotion, guidance, discipline, dignity, and respect; but the greatest of these was her undying love, for them.  As a mother led by God, she trained up her children utilizing Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go.” This was instilled into her as a child by her parents, grandparents and extended family.  The acknowledgement of God and Christ was a top priority in her life as she walked in true faith trusting and believing in God. Today her children applaud her commitment and are proud to expressed and agree with Proverbs 31:28: “Her children arise up and call her blessed.”

Yes, Angela’s focus was God, family and society!  Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched!

Preceded her in death was her mother, Sharon Butler Ridley, paternal grandparents, Carlton, Sr.  and Julia Ridley, maternal grandfathers, Festus Butler, Sr., and Julius Smith, uncle, Rufus Ridley, and aunts, Emily Wallace and Brenda Moore.  Loving memories will be cherished by her children Andrew, Ronald (McKenzie) and Ashley of Kansas City; parents Deacon Carlton and Dr. Kathryn Ridley, Jr.; brother, Carlton V.
