Margaret G. Jones, affectionally known as “Nanny” or “Sunshine” died in her sleep surrounded by family, at the family home on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Margaret was born on December 10, 1917, in Kansas City, Missouri to Willie and Beulah Garner Guy. She was the only child. She was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School system and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936.
She married Kerma Lee Dallas and to that union four children were born. She later married Clarence Calvin Jones Sr. and to that union three children were born.
Margaret worked as one of the first African American female elevator operators for the City of Kansas City at City Hall. She was employed by Russell Stover Candy Company and Presto Foods as a packer and worked at Katherine B. Richardson in the cafeteria.
She was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic and Risen Christ Catholic Churches until their closing and a faithful member of St. Monica Catholic Church until her health failed. She was a member of St. Monica Wednesday Wisdom Keepers, the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Father Constantine Court #57, Palestine Senior Center, St. Therese Little Flower Senior Center and Ivanhoe Neighborhood Association.
Margaret was a Royals fan, loved to play Dominoes with anyone that would play with her, loved working her BIG Puzzle Books. She was an excellent cook, loved to sew, crochet, knit, quilt and make ceramics.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter, Bonnie Dallas Walker, and great grandchildren Ebone’ L. Holmes, Stevie Marie Jones and Solomon Jones, and a host of family and friends all who wait to greet her.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her children Donald Dallas, William Dallas, Betty Dallas Adair(John), Sharon Jones Sanders (Donald), Margaret Jones Aldridge (Berry) and Clarence Calvin Jones Jr., her 17 grandchildren Damon Watson, Ivan Walker, Byron(Nerissa)Walker, Cheryll (Darell) Hill, Elaina (Fred) Anderson, Terri Adair, Guy (Dawnena) Adair, Beverly Cunningham, Bridget Delafore, Steven (Ayonda) Jones, Monique Theis, Calvin Jones III, Essence (Donyel)Murray, Yetra Jones, Richard Jones, Terrance Jones and Gabrille Pickens, 23 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, along with a host of loving family and friends.
When we remember Margaret, we think about a very strong and loving woman. We have been blessed to receive her unconditional love and witness her generosity and willingness to accept people as they were. She never judged you, only encouraged you to be the best you could be. She will truly be missed by her family and many others whose lives she touched.
