Henry C Small Jr. was the second oldest of 7 seven children He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Bernice Small, son, Gregory DeWayne Mayo, both parents, Henry C Small, Sr and Effie Mae Small, twin sisters, Velma Josephine Small-Tabb and Thelma D. Small- Lawson, and Edna Williams.
Henry was born in Tyronza, Arkansas on August 19, 1936. He was a member of Greater Inspirational Church of God in Christ, Kansas City, Missouri under the leadership of the late Pastor Andrew Ward Sr. He later became a member of Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Ministries in 2008 where he served as a faithful member and also on the deacon board.
Working at a restaurant in Missouri, he met and married the love of his life and lifetime companion, Bernice Mayo, they had 8 children. He worked at JCPenney as the head cook and at 13th St Grill & bar. He had a part time job in the automotive department at Walmart.
In addition to enjoying and taking care of his family, Henry had many hobbies. He enjoyed going fishing with his sons and friends. He loved westerns and would watch them all day. He enjoyed listening to old school R & B music. He enjoyed going to Worlds of Fun and riding the roller coasters. He was a kind, warm and gentle man. Whenever he saw anyone having car trouble, he would always stop and help, no matter who it was. He also enjoyed working on cars.
Henry was a quiet man, however, when he did talk, he used his words wisely and always had a positive comment and only saw the good in people. His smile could light up a room. He read his Bible constantly.
He departed this life on January 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Marcel Small, of Kansas City, MO, Aundre (Ruth) Small of Raytown, MO. Five daughters, Gloria Brown, Brenda Rhodes, Waukita Mayo of Kansas City, MO., Cassandra Reed (Rickey Reed), Grandview, MO., and Tammy Small, Kansas City, MO. Two brothers, Odell Robert Small, Clea Small (Diane) one sister, Christine Small-Jones. 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
