On the morning of July 31st, 2019 HE said, “WELL DONE MY CHILD”, and our dearest Alice was called Home to rest. Alice was born on September 26, 1937 to Melvin and Gertrude Harris in Fulton, Missouri. She was the youngest of 4 children. As a young girl Alice moved to Kansas City with her family. She attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church and KC public schools WW Yates and RT Cole’s elementary. As an adolescent she attended Lincoln-Manual High School where she graduated with the class of 1955.
After high school Alice joined the U.S. Women’s Army Corp. Later she attended Penn Valley Community College and earned her Associates in Business Management. Alice worked several jobs including the Internal Revenue Service, Woolf Brothers Inc. as a book-keeper and eventually the United States Postal Service from which she retired after 30 years of service. She was blessed with a son, Keith- her pride and joy.
Alice was a social butterfly. She loved people and stayed active participating in many professional and social groups including: the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA); Pacesetters’ Social Club; Triple F (Fins, Furs and Feathers) Sportsmen Club; Galaxy II Investments Club; Friends of the Buffalo Soldiers; Tuesday Senior Rollers and many more. She was an avid bowler and card shark!
As an adult Alice became an active member and missionary of Good Samaritan Baptist Church in Kansas City where she served for over 50 years. She loved The Lord and made sure she spread The Good News of the Gospel to her family and those she met.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters-Martha and Dorothy Harris, and brothers- Melvin and Donald Harris. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her son Hakeem Wahid (Keith), daughter-in-law Geraldine Greenfield, (2) grandsons- Gerald and Gerron Greenfield, (2) nieces- Sandra McGee (Wilbert) and Donna Williams, nephew- Brodus Harris and a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
