Gerald Calvin Mayberry, Sr. was born on September 7, 1941, in Odessa, Missouri, to Walter Lee Mayberry, Sr. and Alta Geraldine Cahill. He grew up in Odessa, Missouri, and graduated from Odessa High School.
On April 13, 2024, Gerald passed away at Saint Luke's Hospice House, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
In his youth, Gerald's athletic talent caught the attention of the St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball (MLB) team, who scouted him in 1959. While his journey took him down a different path, his passion for sports remained evident throughout his life.
Gerald dedicated 30 years of service to the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (Olin Corporation) before retiring. His commitment and hard work were appreciated by all who knew him.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lee Mayberry, Sr. and Alta Geraldine Cahill, as well as his siblings, Walter Mayberry, Jr., John Mayberry, Harry Mayberry, Robert Leon Nichols, Dorothy Jean Mayberry Turner, Fleta Mae Williams, and Rita Joyce Nichols.
He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his children: Rhonda Echols of Lee's Summit, MO, Stephanie Mayberry of Kansas City, MO, and Gerald C. Mayberry, Jr. (Dena) of Independence, MO. Gerald also leaves behind his sister-in-laws, Blanche Mayberry of Kansas City, MO, and Rose Mary Neal (Wilbert) of Kansas City, MO, along with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special extended family, including the Warrior/Chase family.
Gerald will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, strength, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
